During a visit to Hong Kong’s Botanical Gardens, Leanne Claxton discovered the Medinilla magnifica flower. Its bold towering firm leathery leaves curved around an upside-down bloom caught her attention. The pinkish clusters of flowers hang down like a chandelier shyly hiding underneath the dominant veiny leaves. Elegant with tropical optimism, this floral is native to the Philippines. It is the main floral in the composition of this elaborately detailed iPad drawing. Depicted in monochrome with a hint of pale pinkish peach tones on the blooms and a slight shimmer of pale lilac where the light hits the leaves.
